Jewel Thief: Kunal Kapoor Jokes ‘Tom Cruise Might Have Some Competition’ as Saif Ali Khan Flips His Switch When Camera Rolls
Netflix premiered Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins on April 25 with Saif Ali Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Nikita Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor. After the release, Kunal Kapoor described his wonderful time working with Saif Ali Khan and how he instantly got into character.
Saif Ali Khan’s Rapid Transformation
Kunal told Mid-Day that Saif’s jokes kept the set light and laughing. But when the camera rolls, Saif becomes serious and attentive.
Kunal told Saif, “It’s like a switch gets turned on,” praising his swift turnaround.
He also joked about the film’s running requirements, saying,
“Tom Cruise might have sprint competition!”

Kunal lauded Jaideep Ahlawat. Despite their few scenes together, Kunal loved Jaideep’s natural and seamless performance on- and off-screen.
Kunal’s Role
Kunal said he switched from flowery sentences to punchy ones in his role. His character avoids thinking and prefers straightforward solutions. Kunal appreciated this adjustment and explored “contained intensity” in his performance.
Decisive Action and Tough Scenes
Like the best heist films, Kunal says Jewel Thief keeps audiences guessing. He said shooting high-energy scenes, notably his furious, primal fight with Saif, was difficult. Filming was exhausting but exhilarating since they wanted the fights to look authentic and brutal rather than planned.
