Seema Pahwa Slams Acting Training for Untrained Actors

Training inexperienced performers wastes money, says Seema Pahwa. ‘Our industry is not about art anymore.’

Theatre, television, and film actress Seema Pahwa recently discussed the entertainment industry. Seema, who appeared in Gangubai Kathiawadi, directs and teaches acting. She says training untrained performers is a waste of money. She also had strong thoughts about how the film industry has changed.

She told Bollywood Thikana that filmmakers routinely call Seema to educate young actresses and lead acting workshops, but she typically refuses. She recommends casting trained performers.

She advised, “Give deserving people a chance. What new things do unskilled actors bring? Why spend money and time on them?

Seema discussed the struggles of many bright and trained actors. Despite years of training, some seek tiny jobs to live. She stated that while some actors feel discouraged, their love of acting never fades.

She discussed the industry’s situation candidly.  Let’s stop pretending. Art no longer defines our industry. Business is now everything, she added, lamenting the fact.

Seema added that many top acting school graduates don’t get film opportunities. “I know someone who studied acting and worked in theatre but had to leave the city because they couldn’t get roles,” she said.

Next for Seema Pahwa?

Her next film is Bhool Chuk Maaf, with Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. Karan Sharma directed the film, which opens on May 9, 2025.
